Toronto is the 5th largest city in North America and, as David Dobbin, President, Toronto Hydro Telecom, pointed out: "A world-class city like Toronto needs leading-edge wireless technology – reliable, high performance, and scalable – to steer a course to greater productivity." On September 6, 2006, the Toronto Wi-Fi network went live with what Dobbin called "the most advanced Wi-Fi equipment on the face of the planet."
